Escaping winter: I’m going to Kisii!

So I had to take a job last year that turned out to be nothing it had promised. I wasn’t learning anything and felt miserable. At the same time, Facebook kept popping up ads of volunteering as team leader around the world with the International Citizen Service. So a few months into the job, I decided that there was no point sticking around with it. I wasn’t going anywhere with this role and why make myself miserable? I rather wanted to take this opportunity to explore another part of the world and find out what I really want to do.

And here I am, packing my bags for a three months adventure in Africa! For the next three months, I will be calling a small town in Kenya, Kisii, my home. I’m going out with an organisation called Balloon Ventures to volunteer as team leader for 10 young British volunteers. You should have a look at the programme here. It’s really an amazing opportunity (unfortunately only available if you have been living in the UK for the last 12 months).

There isn’t much information out there on Kisii so I’m super excited to see what it’s going to be like. I do know that it’s super hot (30 Celsius in the day) and luckily we are there just before the rainy season. Also (and I’m sooooo excited about that), I know that avocados only cost about 8 pence a piece. Well, I know what I’ll be living off the next weeks… Goodbye cold European winter! Hello African sun and delicious fresh fruit!

Have you been to Kisii or heard anything about it?
